The simplest comparison is to first select "HSA" under "Plan Type" and then make a selection under "Price Range" in the vertical grey bar to the left of the quote boxes.
The list of quote boxes will then show only HSA-qualified plans from various carriers in the selected price range.
If you make a deductible selection, bear in mind that coinsurance could be a far greater amount for you to pay than the deductible. Coinsurance is the percentage that you pay after you pay the deductible and before the plan pays 100%.
If you want the plan to pay 100% after deductible, you must select one that shows '$0' for 'Inpatient Hospital' which indicates that you pay nothing for covered expenses, not just hospital, after you have paid the deductible. Click on "View Details" for more information.
You can check the box at the left of each quote that you want to compare with others and then click on 'Compare' which will list the selected plans side by side (up to four quotes compared at one time).
You can also select one insurance company only.
By default, the plans are listed from the lowest monthly premium to the highest. You can change that by using the links to the right of "Sort By: at the top of the quote results page. A summary of plan features is found by clicking "View Details". The carrier's brochure is found at the bottom of the "View Details" page.
Common Plan Design
If the plan does not pay 100% after deductible, the coinsurance may be greater than the deductible. So compare total out-of-pocket, not just deductibles. Out-of-pocket means deductible + total possible coinsurance.
Each year (usually calendar year), you have to pay all medical expenses until the deductible is met. The Internal Revenue Code requires that there are no copays for doctor visits or prescriptions in these plans, except a copay is allowed for preventive wellness checkups. Not all plans cover preventative checkups.
HSA plans are "catastrophic coverage" in design, but the Internal Revenue Code limits deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums to be within a certain maximum and minimum range.
